About
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is a political party in Nigeria. Its current chairperson is David Mark, a former Senate President, and its secretary is Rauf Aregbesola. The party has been part of coalition efforts to challenge the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 elections.
History
The party was originally named "Alliance for Democratic Change" when it was formed in 2005, but was renamed the African Democratic Congress by the time it was registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Its first National Chairman was Ralph Nwosu, who stepped down in 2025 for David Mark during coalition talks. On 10 May 2018, the party was adopted by former President Olusegun Obasanjo's Coalition for Nigeria Movement, and Obasanjo later served as chairman of the party. In 2026 the party became involved in a leadership dispute that led to multiple legal challenges, after which INEC restored the David Mark-led leadership while the substantive case remained pending.
