Geidam
About
Geidam is a Local Government Area in Yobe State, northeast Nigeria, which also contains the town of Geidam. It is primarily an agricultural community, known for cultivating food and cash crops and for rearing animals such as cows, donkeys and rams. The area has a semi-arid environment with hot temperatures, drought and little tree growth. Its local economy has been severely affected by the Boko Haram insurgency, which has caused loss of life, property and the displacement of a considerable part of the population.
History
On 24 April 2021 terrorists from ISWAP seized the town of Geidam, killing 11 people, and over 6,000 residents were displaced. The Nigerian Armed Forces later retook the town after an offensive against the terrorists.
