Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni
About
Ogba–Egbema–Ndoni, also written as Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni or ONELGA, is a Local Government Area of Rivers State in South-South Nigeria, under the Rivers West Senatorial District, with its headquarters at Omoku. It is bounded by Imo, Delta, Bayelsa and Anambra States and by Ahoada West, Ahoada East and Emohua Local Government Areas. The area is inhabited by three Igbo-speaking groups: the Ogba, the Egbema and the Ndoni. The area is largely upland and has been the centre of upstream oil and gas exploration and production in Rivers State since the early 1960s, with about 12 producing fields operated by AGIP, Total Energies and Shell/NPDC. It forms part of the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni/Ahoada West constituency of the Nigerian House of Representatives.
History
The Local Government Area was created in 1991 and is named after the three tribes that inhabit the territory: the Ogba, the Egbema and the Ndoni. Before this, the area was part of the old Ahoada Local Government Area. The traditional institutions of the area are the Oba of Ogbaland, the Nze-Obi of Egbema Kingdom and the Awor of Ndoni, with the Eze Egi of Egi Kingdom in Ogbaland later adopted and elevated to first-class status.
