History
Ido Local Government was among five in the Ibadan district before it was cancelled in 1956. The others were Mapo, Akinyele, Ona-Ara and Olode-Olojumon, with Mapo serving as headquarters through the Ibadan City Council. Ido Local Government came into being in May 1989 as part of a state policy to bring government closer to the grassroots. It was carved out of the former Akinyele Local Government. During the Second Republic the area was known as Akinyele West Local Government (1981-1983), before being merged back into Akinyele Local Government in 1984 by the Buhari/Idiagbon regime. The council was run by a sole administrator from May to July 1989, then a caretaker committee until December 8, 1990. After the formation of the Social Democratic Party and the National Republican Convention, it was handed over to democratically elected leaders.
