Ewekoro
About
Ewekoro is a Local Government Area in Ogun State, Nigeria, with its headquarters in the town of Itori. It covers an area of 594 square kilometres and had a population of 55,156 at the 2006 census. The area is economically important because limestone is quarried there for cement production by Lafarge (West African Portland Cement Company) Ewekoro and the Dangote group. Although it is still underdeveloped, Ewekoro is seen as a potentially favourable destination for investment because of its proximity to the two largest cities in south west Nigeria.
History
The cement has been quarried in the area since 1959, the year Lafarge cement production began in Nigeria.
