About

Alimosho is a neighborhood of Lagos and a Local Government Area in Lagos State, Nigeria. Its population is officially recorded as 1,288,714 in the 2006 census, though the Lagos State Government argues it exceeded 2 million residents at that time. The area is predominantly inhabited by Egba and Egbado Yoruba people and is known for its commerce, markets such as Ilé-epo, Ikotun and Igando, and annual Oro, Igunnu and Egungun festivals.

History

The Alimosho was established in 1945 and was then under the western region. It has since been subdivided into several Local Community Development Areas (LCDAs) following restructuring that began under the administration of Bola Ilori, the last chairman of the old single Alimosho Local Government. The six sub-divisions created are Agbado/Oke-Odo, Ayobo/Ipaja, Alimosho LG, Egbe/Idimu, Ikotun/Igando and Mosan Okunola.
