History

Isin was created from the old Irepodun local government area in 1996, with its headquarters at Owu-Isin. The name is traced to several origin stories, including an ackee apple tree (Igi Isin) under which people met, a founder named Aina who rested in the area, and the phrase Ile-Isinmi meaning land of rest; the article describes the land-of-rest version as the most probable.
