Yauri
About
Yauri is a town and Local Government Area in Kebbi State, northwestern Nigeria. It is the location of the Yauri Emirate, one of the smallest historical emirates in Northern Nigeria. The area covers about 3,380 square kilometres and is scattered over six major districts. Yauri's ethnic groups include Shangawa, Gungawa, Dukawa, Kamberi, Hausa, Nupe, Yoruba and Kanuri. Hausa is the main language today, and Hausa people constitute the governing class of the area.
History
The Reshe people consider Yauri to be their ancient city. Over time, the growing influence of the Hausa in the socio-political structure of northern Nigeria has led to some of the dominant ethnic groups in Yauri becoming Hausanized.
