History
The name Dutsin-ma is said to derive from a hunter named Ma who lived on a main rock at the heart of the town decades ago; dutsi means rock in Hausa, and people began settling around the rock because of the availability of water. Dutsin-ma became a Local Government in 1976. The inhabitants are predominantly Hausa and Fulani, and their main occupations are farming (irrigation, aquaculture, annual farming) and animal rearing. The town is also the location of the Federal University of Dutsin-Ma.
