History
The Itu Aka festival dates back to the time when Nguru and his children settled in Nguru Land. Farming was the main occupation, practised through shifting cultivation, in which people farmed one area one year and moved to another the next. Originally a religious and traditional ceremony, it was led by the elders and priests of Nguru, who offered sacrifices and showed the people which part of the forest they would farm that year. Itu Aka literally means "pointing out" or showing.
