History
The history of Dukku began in the 17th century when Arɗo Sammbo, a leader of a Fulani clan, migrated with his people and cattle from Fuuta Jallon in Guinea and settled in the present location. After leaving a settlement called Kamanei, the group moved south and eventually settled near Lumpaaso on the Gongola River under a Bolewa chief, before being shown the present site of Dukku. The name Dukku comes from a Fulfulde command word combined with a Bolewa word, first as Dukku ƴori and later shortened to Dukku. The town is the headquarters of Dukku Emirate, created out of Gombe Emirate by the first civilian governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Abubakar Habu Hashidu, in 2001.
