About
Isi Uzo is a Local Government Area (LGA) of Enugu State, Nigeria, bordering Benue State and Ebonyi State. Its largest city is Eha-Amufu, and its capital is Ikem. The area is host to 23 autonomous communities.
History
Isi Uzo was created as a local government area in 1976, during a reorganisation under Olusegun Obasanjo. At that time Enugu State was made up of three senatorial districts, and Isi Uzo was part of the Nsukka district. In 1996 areas were reorganised again, and parts of Enugu State and Abia State became Ebonyi State, after which Isi Uzo was placed in the Enugu East Senatorial District. In 1981 a Federal College of Education was established in Eha-Amufu, the commercial hub of the local government.
