History
Ikole LGA is named after its principal town, Ikole Ekiti, whose traditional ruler, the Elekole of Ikole, is also the paramount ruler of the Egbeoba (Confederation of Obas) Kingdom. Between 1900 and 1920, people from far-flung villages and towns deep in the forest migrated towards a new settlement under the Egbeoba umbrella, leading to the formation of the modern Egbeoba Kingdom under the then Elekole Adeleye I, a retired school teacher. Communities around Ikole resettled along the Ikole-Kabba road following the influence of the late Elekole, prior to the 1920 Oke Eniju revolt and its consequences.
