Damboa
About
Damboa is a city and local government area in Borno State, Nigeria. It covers an area of 6,219 square kilometres and had a population of 233,200 at the 2006 census. The original settlers are the Marghi people, and the area is also home to a significant Kanuri community that has intermarried with the Marghi over time.
History
The original settlers of Damboa are the Marghi people. Due to the booming Calabash farming economy, many Kanuri people travelled to Damboa, and many later settled and married there, so that many residents are of mixed Kanuri and Marghi descent, while pure Marghi and pure Kanuri families still exist. The town is a local government area that was one of sixteen LGAs making up the Borno Emirate before the establishment of the Damboa Emirate Council, a traditional state in Borno State.
