History

The Ningi emirate has a long line of rulers, beginning with Hamza, who reigned from 1847 to 1849. The area was formerly home to the Gamo-Ningi language, but its last speaker died in the 1980s and the community has largely switched to Hausa. Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya was the longest-serving emir, reigning from 1978 until his death on 25 August 2024, after which Haruna Yunusa Danyaya succeeded him.
