About

Michika is a town and Local Government Area in Adamawa State, Nigeria, and serves as the administrative headquarters of the local government. It lies in northern Adamawa State, directly across the border from Cameroon, and is the fourth largest town in the state. The principal ethnic group is the Kamwe people, who speak Vecemwe. History

Michika local government was created in 1976. Oral history holds that the town was founded around the late 15th century by Kwada Kwakaa, a prince and hunter. The name is traced to a Kamwe phrase meaning the hills where Kwada Kwakaa goes stealthily to hunt. The town was seized by Boko Haram in September 2014 and recaptured by the Nigerian military on 29 January 2015.
