History
The name Madagali is said to come from a spear ('gali') belonging to a Marghi man named Madu. The Local Government Area was created in 1991, when Taraba State was carved out of Gongola State. In August 2014 the town was seized by Boko Haram, and in September 2014 residents of Madagali, Gulak and Michika fled to mountainous areas and to Mubi after a failed government attempt to retake the town.
