About

The Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) is a Nigerian federal agency that works to help small and medium scale enterprises overcome poor infrastructure in running their businesses and gain access to financial services. The agency runs programmes to support SMEs, including international cooperation with other countries to develop enterprises and attract investors, packaging and branding support to help SME products reach markets under the African Continental Free Trade Area, and cluster empowerment programmes for businesses in specific sectors such as shea butter production and marketing.

History

In April 2022, the agency's former director general, Umar Dikko Radda, left to pursue a political career, and he was replaced by Charles Odii. In February 2013, SMEDAN signed a memorandum of understanding with the Directorate-General of Small and Medium Industries of Indonesia's Ministry of Industry to cooperate on enterprise development and invite Indonesian investors to Nigeria.
