About
The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) is the leading Federal Government agency charged with promoting non-oil exports in Nigeria. Its aim is to diversify the economy away from oil and build a stronger economy. The Council's functions include collecting and sharing information on exportable products and foreign markets, providing technical help to local exporters, organising Nigeria's participation in trade fairs, administering export-related grants, advising the government on export policy, and maintaining representation in other countries. Its headquarters is at Export House in Maitama, Abuja.
History
The Council was established through the promulgation of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council Decree No. 26 of 1976 and was formally implemented in March 1977. The law was amended by Decree No. 72 of 1979 and Decree No. 41 of 1988, and was complemented by the Export (Incentives and Miscellaneous Provisions) Decree No. 18 of 1986. The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (Amendment) Decree No. 64 of 1992 was enacted to enhance the Council's performance by minimising bureaucratic bottlenecks and increasing its autonomy in dealing with the organised private sector. The Council has a governing board drawn from both the public and private sectors.
