National Business and Technical Examinations Board
NABTEB
About
The National Business and Technical Examinations Board, popularly known as NABTEB, is a Nigerian examination board that conducts examinations for technical and business innovation colleges in Nigeria. It conducts the National Technical Certificate, Advanced National Technical Certificate, National Business Certificate, Advanced National Business Certificate and Modular Trade Certificate examinations. The board's examinations are held biannually, in May/June and November/December. It is led by a Chief Executive Registrar and serves the whole of Nigeria.
History
NABTEB was established under Decree No. 70 (now Act 70) of the 1993 constitution. The Decree mandated the board to conduct technical and business innovation certificate examinations that had previously been run by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the London Royal Society of Arts, and City and Guilds of London. It was established during the regime of Nigerian Military Head of State General Ibrahim Babangida. The board was established in 1992 to domesticate examinations previously conducted by the London Royal Society of Arts, City and Guild of London, and the West African Examinations Council's technical and business examinations, and to tailor them to the needs of Nigerian society under the National Policy on Education. Its creation followed over 15 years of campaigning from 1977 to 1992, and four government panels reviewed the structure of public examinations in Nigeria. NABTEB was the first federal organisation to offer subsidised registrations to academic candidates in Nigeria.
