About
The Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) is the primary military intelligence agency of Nigeria. It provides military intelligence to the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence.
History
The DIA was established in 1986 under Decree Number 19, issued by then president Ibrahim Babangida, which dissolved the National Security Organization and restructured Nigeria's security services into three separate entities under the Office of the Co-ordinator of National Security. The DIA was tasked with military-related intelligence both outside and inside Nigeria, while the State Security Service handled domestic intelligence and the National Intelligence Agency handled external intelligence and counterintelligence.
